Murochka, according to Marina Chukovskaya, fell ill with tuberculosis at the end of 1929 - almost simultaneously with the publication of the renunciation in the Literary Newspaper ; Korney Chukovsky, until his death, considered his daughter's fatal illness retaliation [2] . The disease developed rapidly: at first the leg became ill, then the eye.
Korney Ivanovich resisted with all his being thoughts of her imminent death. I didn’t believe it. He didn’t want to believe! It seemed to him that the doctors were mistaken. It happens so? He then understood that the child was dying. That, having convinced himself that she was ill only temporarily, that she would undoubtedly recover, forced her to study, asked her lessons so that she would not be behind the class. Then, in complete despair, he ran away from home, unable to bear the suffering of the child and the grief of Maria Borisovna [3] .
In autumn 1930, Murochka was taken to the Crimea , to the then-famous children's bone-tuberculosis sanatorium [3] . In the summer of 1931, parents took Murochka from the sanatorium to their rented apartment. In August, she seemed to feel better. In September, Moura became worse again: "Trying to be fun - but there is no longer any hope for recovery." By mid-October, Murochka became very ill. November 10 evening Murochka died. She was buried in the old Alupkinskoye cemetery [4] .
Murochka’s grave was considered lost. However, the community of Crimean necropolists, based on the latest records of Chukovsky about the funeral of the child, which stated that the path to the cemetery did not take much time and was done on foot, concluded: most likely, Murochka was buried in the old cemetery of Alupka. Thus, the tomb of Mura Chukovskaya was found near the entrance, next to the road to the cemetery church. A simple metal cross is installed on the grave, on which it is written by hand: “Murochka Chukovskaya. 24 / II - 1920 - 10/11 - 1931 "
