Polikarpov, Vasily Petrovich

Vasily Petrovich Polikarpov ( May 6, 1903 , the village of Glutno , Novgorod Province , Russian Empire [1] - May 15, 1975 , Moscow , RSFSR , USSR ) - Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (1946), USSR champion in athletics (1927, 1928 ); architect , Lenin Prize laureate , professor of the State Central Institute of Physical Culture , one of the authors of the largest stadium in Russia - the Central Stadium in Luzhniki .

Content

Biography

After graduating from secondary school No. 1 of Malaya Vishera [2] he graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Railway Engineers and the Leningrad Institute of Physical Culture named after P.F. Lesgaft .

He taught at the Central Institute of Physical Education - professor, candidate of technical sciences . He created the course “Sports Facilities” at the institute, the basis of which is still based on the textbook of V. P. Polikarpov “Sports and Physical Culture Facilities” published in 1965.

He was buried at the Kuzminsky cemetery in Moscow.

Architect

According to his projects, more than 30 largest sports facilities were built abroad and in the USSR, including:

  • Kirov Stadium (Leningrad)
  • Republican stadiums in Minsk, Baku, Chisinau
  • stadium in Luzhniki.

The author of the project for the reconstruction of the building of the former Mikhailovsky Manege (Leningrad) in the Winter Stadium (1948) [3] .

Scientific activity

The author of more than 80 works, including 21 monographs [4] .
