Biography

Born on April 20, 1920 in Pyatigorsk [1] [2] [3] , in the family of a working Armenian from Karabakh [1] [3] . After graduating from high school, he enters the Krasnodar Military Infantry School , which he graduated with honors.

 

In the Red Army since 1939 . In 1941 , after graduating from the Krasnodar Military Infantry School, he received the rank of lieutenant and was appointed commander of the rifle platoon of the 323rd regiment of the Lviv 81th mechanized division.

From the first days of World War II he has been at the front, in January 1942 he goes on promotion and receives the rank of senior lieutenant and is appointed to the post of deputy chief of staff of the regiment.

In April 1942, for his ingenuity, courage and ability to navigate the terrain, he was appointed to the post of battalion commander, and after only three months received the rank of captain . In the same year, the battalion under the command of Captain Hakobyants actively participated in the liberation of Armavir , Krasnodar , the Crimean and other cities of the North Caucasus .

In March 1944, Major Hakobyants already received an assignment of extraordinary complexity, the purpose of which was to go with his battalion the Dnieper , take a bridgehead on the opposite bank of the river and launch an attack on Kherson . The goals set for the battalion of Major Hakobyants were fulfilled perfectly, and for the successful completion of this combat mission, shown during the crossing of the Dnieper and the liberation of Kherson, personal courage and ingenuity were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 3, 1944 .

The young officer fought bravely and distinguished himself for the liberation of Nikolaev , Ochakov , Odessa, during the crossing of the Dnieper, during a major Chisinau operation . When, together with his unit, he came to the Vistula , pursuing the enemy on the territory of Poland, Hakobyants was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel.

In 1945 he entered the MV Frunze Military Academy , after which he conducted fruitful work in various units, including the Armenian Taman Division .

Since 1956 he worked at the Yerevan Agricultural Institute .

He died on July 30, 1976 .

Memory

  • in 1977 in the city of Pyatigorsk, the street formerly called Neglinnaya was renamed in his honor [2] .
  • According to the decree of the head of the city of Pyatigorsk, the name of the Hero was carved on a memorial plaque in the Alley of Heroes [4] .
