Artemio Franchi was born in Florence in January 1922 , from 1943 to 1944 . He fought in the Italian army , after the war he worked as executive director at Angelo Bruzzi . Since the 1960s, he began working as a sports manager for Fiorentina .
In 1967-1976 and 1978-1980, Franky was president of the Italian Football Federation , in 1972-1983 he headed UEFA , in 1974-1983 he was a member of the FIFA Executive Committee.
On August 12, 1983, Franky died in a car accident near Siena. Stadiums in Florence and Siena are named after him; the Artemio Franchi Cup was also held.
