Bethany Mattek-Sands ( born Bethanie Mattek-Sands ; born March 23, 1985 in Rochester , USA ) is an American professional tennis player ; winner of the 2016 Olympic Games in mixed doubles (with Jack Sok ); winner of five doubles Grand Slam tournaments ( Australian Open 2015 , 2017 , French Open 2015 , 2017 , US Open 2016 ); winner of two Grand Slam mixed tournaments ( Australian Open 2012 , French Open 2015 ); finalist of one Grand Slam mixed tournament ( US Open 2015 ); winner of 26 WTA doubles tournaments; former first doubles in the world; two-time finalist of the Federation Cup (2009-10) and the owner of the Hopman Cup (2011) as part of the US national team ; the former fifth racket of the world in the junior doubles ranking; winner of the single tournament Les Petits As (1999) and the doubles tournament Orange Bowl (1999); finalist of one junior grand slam tournament in doubles ( Wimbledon-2001 ).

General Information

Bethany is one of four children of Tim and Heidi Mattekov; her brothers are called Chad and Andrew, and her sister is Alison.

On November 29, 2009, an American married Justin Sands, adjusting her last name.

Bethany began playing tennis at the age of five, her favorite cover is hard.

Bethany began her professional career in 1999. The first WTA tour tournament where she played in the main draw becomes Amelia Island in April 2001. In the first match at this level, Mattek lost to compatriot Jill Kreibas 6-4, 1-6, 3-6. In September of that year, a 16-year-old American made her debut in the Grand Slam tournaments in the US Open and lost her first meeting to Alicia Molik . Having returned to the US Open a year later and having passed the qualification for the tournament, Bethany in the first round met the eminent compatriot Jennifer Capriati and lost to her in dry 0-6, 0-6.

In January 2003, she won her first title at ITF tournaments , winning the 50,000-strong singles and doubles in Fullertown . At the 2003 US Open, Mattek in the starting mast lost to Natalie Deshi . In July 2004, she takes the title at 50,000th in Schenectady . In August of the same year, the American managed to get the first trophy at the WTA tournaments in doubles. In May 2012, with the help of Sani Mirza at a tournament in Brussels, she was able to win the 10th WTA doubles title in her professional career.
