Cello Servé - an antique cello of the Cremonian master Antonio Stradivari , the most famous owner of which was the Belgian virtuoso Francois Servé (1807–1866). It is in excellent condition, even a label with the year of its manufacture (1701) has been preserved.
During the Russian tour, Serve performed the compositions of Prince N. B. Yusupov in the house of his widow. In 1857, the Yusupovs handed over the instrument to Serve. Prior to this, the virtuoso used the Stradivarius cello, loaned to him by Count Vielgorsky (perhaps it was Davydov’s cello ).
After Serve's death, the cello was acquired by Prince de Caraman-Chime. Currently, an antique instrument is exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution , which permits its use by prominent musicians. In 1992, Anner Bilsma wrote Bach 's Suites for Cello on it.
