The Maffei Lapidary Museum ( Italian: Museo Lapidario Maffeiano ) is a museum of ancient art, discovered during archaeological excavations in the Venice area . Located in the city of Verona ( Italy ).

Founded in 1714 by the Marquis of Chipion Maffei based on the collection of the Verona Academic Philharmonic (27 epitaphs acquired in 1612 ). The museum building with a monumental six - column portico was designed by architect A. Pompeii. Access for visitors to the museum was opened in 1745 .
The museum exhibits a rich collection of stone slabs, urns, statues, inscriptions, vases. The first catalog of the museum (“Museum Veronense”) was compiled in 1749 by its founder.
