Biography
At the age of four she began to read, at seven she learned Latin. In 1613, after the death of her father, she moved with her family to Utrecht . In 1636 - the first woman - she entered the university: since women were not allowed to do this, she sat in the classroom behind a special curtain so that male students would not see her. Having a penchant for literature and theology, she specialized in law. She was also engaged in geography, astronomy, and history. She was fluent in fourteen ancient and new, western and eastern languages. Corresponded with G. Foss and H. Huygens .
Since 1664, she joined the religious sect of the Labadists (its head, Jean de Labadi , a former Jesuit , converted to Protestantism ), traveled with her around Europe. She wrote a treatise on the teachings of Labadi and her conversion.
