Before military service
Born on January 25, 1939 in Kiev, Ukrainian SSR . Ukrainian. A few years later, the family moved to Melitopol . There he graduated from school, he worked at one of the factories of the city.
Military service in the USSR
In 1958 he was called up for military service in the border troops of the USSR. He served in the Transcaucasian Border District, was deputy branch commander at one of the border posts in the Georgian SSR . From the troops entered in 1959 in the Alma-Ata Higher Command Frontier School , which he graduated in 1963 . He served in the Transcaucasian Border District, since 1980 - in the North-West Border District. He graduated from the Military Academy named after MV Frunze and the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR in 1984 . Since 1984 - Chief of Staff of the Pacific Border District . Since 1987 - Head of the Trans-Baikal Border District Troops. Since 1990 - Chief of Troops of the Western Border District with headquarters in Kiev .
Military service in Ukraine
One of the first to go to serve in the army of Ukraine after the collapse of the USSR and took the Ukrainian oath. In November 1991, he was appointed Chairman of the State Committee for the Protection of the State Border of Ukraine - Commander of the Border Troops of Ukraine. He organized the mass adoption of the military oath of Ukraine by the personnel of the border troops, achieved the immediate dismissal of officers who refused to swear allegiance to Ukraine. The professional activity of Gubenko at the head of the Border Troops is estimated in Ukraine very highly . The military rank of the general of army of Ukraine is appropriated on January 25, 1994 (the second owner of this rank).
Since 1995 - Inspector General of the General Military Inspectorate under the President of Ukraine. Since 1998 - Chairman of the State Export Control Service under the President of Ukraine. He died suddenly on February 19, 2000 . He was buried at the Baykove cemetery in Kiev .
