“Italian for Beginners” ( dates: Italiensk for begyndere ) is a feature film shot in 2000 by Danish director Lone Scherfig in his own script. The film is the 12th motion picture shot according to the principles of the Dogma 95 movement : a hand-held camera, in a room with natural light, with “live” sound and music, however, unlike most Dogma films shot in a dark and severe style, “ Italian for Beginners ”is an upbeat, bright romantic comedy .

Story
The main characters are ordinary people living in a small provincial Danish town: three men and three women, each with their own problems. The hairdresser's girl has a mother - an alcoholic who does not give her rest; the father of another heroine is a neurotic tyrant who does not see anything but the TV; the third character is a young pastor who recently lost his wife; the fourth is a middle-aged man who has problems with women ; the fifth - a former football player working in a restaurant at the stadium, whom they want to dismiss for eternal rudeness towards visitors; another character is a young Italian woman who hardly speaks Danish.
All of them attend Italian language courses at the local municipality - formally each for their own reason, in fact, these courses become the only one that gives them the opportunity to live on. The teacher dies suddenly, so they want to close the courses. It is necessary to find a teacher and new students ... But gradually life is getting better, in the finale the heroes travel to Venice - and each of them is able to find love and harmony.
