
Herold of Grosswalsertal (( German: Gerold von Großwalsertal ; c. 900 , Rezion - 978 , Friesun ( German: Frisun ), modern St. Herold at Gross-Walsertal in Vorarlberg ( Austria ) - Christian saint , hermit .
Biography
Having a noble ( ducal ) origin (presumably Saxony , Germany ), leaves his wife and children and settles as a hermit in Friesun. Subsequently, receives a gift from Count Otto Jagdberg significant plot for living and building the desert . And then, in 970, he donated land with buildings to the nearby Einsiedeln Monastery.
In 1662, the coffin of St. Herold was opened and the relics transferred to Einsiedeln, but in 1663 they were returned to Friesun, where they are still in the monastery of St. Herold ( Benediktinerpropstei Sankt Gerold ). The relics were acquired in 1965-1966.
Memorial Days: Catholic on April 19 , Orthodox on May 2 (with the blessing of Theophanes, Archbishop of Berlin and Germany (ROC MP), Gerold Grosswalsertal is revered as a locally revered Orthodox saint).
