History
Chizhovsky bridgehead is the right-bank suburb of the city. The fighting on the Chizhov bridgehead unfolded in September 1942. Soviet soldiers stood to death here until they were completely liberated and recaptured the city from the Nazi invaders, superior to the forces of the Soviet army. In the battle, the consolidated detachment of the people's militia became famous, which mainly consisted of Voronezh residents. [1] The battles for Chizhovka went down in the history of the battle for Voronezh as an example of the greatest courage and heroism of Soviet soldiers. The bridgehead was captured by the Soviet troops in August 1942. The battles for Chizhovka lasted day and night for 204 days, from July 6, 1942 until the liberation of the city on January 25, 1943. It was precisely from Chizhovka that one of the main blows was inflicted on enemy troops during the liberation of the city in January 1943. On January 25, 1943, the Voronezh-Kastoren offensive operation began from the Chizhov bridgehead.
