Biography
Born September 7, 1921 in the city of Nizhny Novgorod in the family of an employee. Father - Onusaitis, Joseph Antonovich ( 1886 - 1976 ), mechanical engineer. Mother - Anna Borisovna ( 1890 - 1974 ). Finn. Member of the CPSU since 1943 . He graduated from the 2nd year of the Gorky Industrial Institute . In the Soviet Army since 1941 . World War II
He began his combat path as a reconnaissance saboteur. As part of the group, he was abandoned in the Smolensk region, where the scouts conducted a successful operation to destroy the warehouse and undermine the bridge in the strategic direction. In the future, Yuri Onusaitis repeatedly participated in reconnaissance and sabotage operations. During one of them he was wounded. After recovering, Yuri was enrolled in the courses of the middle commanders of the Western Front. In February 1942, he was promoted to lieutenant in the 32nd Rifle Division, which soon became the 31st Guards Rifle Division, where he was appointed to the position of commander of a rifle company.
Then there were fights in the Kaluga region , on the Kursk Bulge, in Belarus , Lithuania .
The battalion commander of the 95th Guards Rifle Regiment (31st Guards Rifle Division, 11th Guards Army , 3rd Belorussian Front ) of the Guard Captain Onusaitis, among the first on July 13, 1944, crossed the Neman River in the area of the city of Alytus ( Lithuania ) and captured the bridgehead . He was seriously injured, but did not leave the battlefield. The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded on March 24, 1945 .
After being cured in February 1945, Captain Onusaitis returned to his native division. With her, he served as deputy commander of the 95th Rifle Regiment in the assault on Königsberg . From there, directly from the battle (previously received wounds opened) he was sent to a military hospital in Moscow, and later to the Shot courses.
Post-War Service
After the war he continued to serve in the army. He graduated from the Military Academy named after M.V. Frunze and the Military Academy of the General Staff. In 1957, the rank of Colonel Onusaitis was admitted to the Military Diplomatic Academy of the Soviet Army. After its completion and before being transferred to the reserve, Yuri Iosifovich works in the system of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff. He holds the post of head of intelligence of the Carpathian Military District, the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany , head of the department of the Military Diplomatic Academy. In 1980, Major General Onusaitis was sent to Afghanistan as an adviser to the chief of the General Staff of the Afghan army.
