Mammoth Lyuba - fossil mammoth - the female of the species woolly mammoth ( Latin Mammuthus primigenius ), found in May 2007 by the reindeer breeder Yuri Khudi in the upper reaches of the Yuribey River on the Yamal Peninsula . [one]

Detection
Since the body of the mammoth was found in May, that is, before the river is opened, scientists assume that it was carried to the surface one year before the discovery, during the flood in June 2006 . Yury Khudi traveled two days to the nearest settlement to report the find. [2]
Research
A study of the remains was carried out by a team of scientists from Russia, USA, Japan and France: [2] first, a computed tomography of the body was performed for careful planning of an autopsy [2] at Tokyo’s Jikai University , then an autopsy was performed at the Zoological Institute in St. Petersburg . Scientists have determined that the mammoth died about 40 thousand years ago, at the age of about a year. [4] It is assumed that after the mammoth drowned and suffocated in the clay mass, the body was preserved by the action of lactobacilli . [3] [5] This ensured the preservation of the body for tens of thousands of years in permafrost , and then prevented the decomposition and destruction of it by scavengers for almost a year after the body was washed out of the permafrost by the course of the river. Description
Lamba's little mammoth lacks only her hooves, tail and right ear fragments, as well as most of the fur. [2] The animal is about 1-3 months old, the geological age is 42,000 years by radiocarbon dating. [1] The size of the animal is 130 cm in length, 90 cm in height, the weight is approximately 50 kilograms. [five]
