In vivo grows in North America . It is found in the southwestern United States , Utah, Nevada, Arizona, western New Mexico and Colorado, Wyoming, southern Montana, southern Idaho and eastern California. It prefers a height of 1300-2600 m above sea level , on dry soils.
Shrubs or trees , monoecious . As a rule, they grow up to 3–6 m, in exceptional cases up to 9 m. The hard-seeded juniper bark is flaky, with gray-brown stripes. Cones are small, round, 0.8-0.9 cm, bluish-brown with a gray-blue coating. The needles are yellow-green, 0.3-0.5 cm long, with a gray-blue bloom. The wood of the tree is resistant to decay. The landings are very decorative.
