Biography
He was born on December 8 (21), 1913 in the village of Belashki, now Talnovsky District, Cherkasy Region of Ukraine, into a peasant family. Ukrainian . Member of the CPSU (b) since 1940. He graduated from 2 courses of a railway technical school. He graduated from the Military Academy of Armored and Mechanized Forces , the Military Academy of the General Staff .
In the Red Army since 1933 . In 1937 he graduated from the Saratov Armored School.
Soviet-Finnish War
During the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940, the platoon commander of the 108th tank battalion (35th tank brigade, 7th army, North-Western front), lieutenant Pyotr Yurchenko participated in fourteen tank attacks, actively conducted reconnaissance, blocked enemy pillboxes .
On February 5, 1940, when the bunker of the Khotinensky block was blocked, the tank of Lieutenant Yurchenko got a hole and caught fire. Despite the wound, he led the damaged combat vehicle out of the firing zone and put out the fire.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 21, 1940 “for exemplary performance of command missions on the front against the Finnish White Guard and courage and heroism shown at the same time”, Lieutenant Yurchenko Petr Fomich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 444).
Years of World War II
In the battles of World War II - from October 1941. In the first battle, commanding a tank company of the 27th separate tank battalion, Yurchenko ambushed on the Minsk highway near the village of Lyakhovo, Smolensk region. The KV heavy tanks of Captain Yurchenko's company left the caponiers and, maneuvering, fired from short stops. The targets were so close that almost every projectile was a direct hit. Not a single enemy car passed the Minsk highway. Up to 20 enemy tanks were destroyed.
Further, Yurchenko participated in the defense of Moscow, was commander of a tank battalion, deputy commander of a tank brigade.
In August 1942, the 106th tank brigade under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Yurchenko as part of the 12th Panzer Corps of the 3rd Panzer Army participated in breaking through the Nazi defenses in the area of the populated areas of Gryn, Veino and Goskovo and in successful offensive operations at the border of the Zhizdra and Fuck out. Pulling up additional forces, the enemy, trying to regain lost ground, launched numerous counterattacks. But the tankers of the 106th brigade, led by Yurchenko, successfully repelled the enemy onslaught until September 12, 1942, destroying 24 tanks and a lot of enemy manpower.
In the fall of 1942, Colonel Yurchenko commanded the 7th Tank Brigade. Tankers Yurchenko, constantly counterattacking the enemy north of the city of Voronezh , kept him in constant tension, preventing the transfer of troops from this section of the front to Stalingrad .
In January-February 1943, the 7th tank brigade under the command of Yurchenko marched with battles from Voronezh to Kursk . After that, in the summer of 1943, Yurchenko, commanding the 68th Tank Brigade [3] , participated in fierce battles on the Kursk Bulge as part of the Bryansk and Central Fronts. From November 13, 1943 to April 23, 1944, he commanded the 254th Tank Brigade , and later was the deputy commander for the combatant unit of the 54th Guards and 91st Tank Brigades.
After the war
After the Victory over Nazi Germany, he continued to serve in the army. In 1950, he graduated in absentia from the Military Academy of Armored and Mechanized Forces , and in 1956 from the Military Academy of the General Staff . In 1956-1962 - deputy commander of a tank division. Since August 11, 1962, of his own free will (due to his state of health), Colonel P.F. Yurchenko is in stock.
He lived in the hero city of Moscow . In 1967 he graduated from the evening department of the Moscow Engineering and Economic Institute. Before retiring, he worked at the USSR Ministry of Rural Construction [4] .
He died on November 29, 2002.
He was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery in Moscow (plot 10).
