Biography

MacDonald Mariga was born April 4, 1987 in Nairobi in a large family, where there were 8 brothers and sisters [1] . Initially, Mariga wanted to go on to study for the military, but he was dissuaded by his father, Noah Wanyama , a former footballer who played for the Kenya team [1] . MacDonald’s younger brother, Victor Vanjama , is also a footballer and acts as a midfielder.

Club career

Mariga started playing football at the Ulinsi Stars and Kenya Pipeline (Nairobi) schools. Later he played for a team from the Kenya championship , spent 2 seasons there and moved to the Enköping club in Sweden. In the club from the Second Division of Sweden , he showed a good game and in January 2006 he was bought by Helsingborg for 250 thousand euros. He played 36 matches at the club and scored 16 goals, won the Swedish Cup in 2006.

In July 2007, Mariga moved to Parma , on a loan with option to purchase. He preferred the Italian club to the English “ Portsmouth ” [1] . The debut in Serie A took place on October 7, 2007 in a home match against the capital Roma , then Parma lost (3-0) [2] . He was the first Kenyan player in Serie A. In early May 2008, he officially became a Parma player [3] , he was redeemed for 1,940,000 euros. Mariga scored the first goal in Italy on February 28, 2009 in the match between Modena and Parma (2: 2). During a performance for Parma, Marigu intended to sign Manchester City , but the Kenyan was unable to obtain permission to work in England. During the negotiations, Marigi’s transition was monitored by the whole country, including the Prime Minister of Kenya, who called his British counterpart to provide assistance [1] .

On February 1, 2010, Mariga moved to Milan International , signing a contract until June 30, 2014 [4] . For 50% of the rights to the player, Inter paid 4.58 million euros [5] , and transferred to Parma half the rights to Jonathan Biabiani and leased, after the end of the current lease agreement, Luis Jimenez [6] . In June 2010, Inter bought the remainder of the rights to Marigu [7] .

On August 18, 2011, the footballer moved to the Spanish club Real Sociedad on a six-month lease with a possible right to buy out [8] [9] [10] [11] .

Team Career

Kenya has been playing for the national team since 2003. He scored his first goal on March 25, 2007 in a match against the Swaziland national team .
