Entrance to the Robert Louis-Dreyfus Training Center

“Robert Louis-Dreyfus Training Center” (formerly called Commandery, or “Commanderism” in Russian) is the training center of the French Olympic football club (Marseille).

Historical background

The center, located in the 12th arrondissement of Marseille , was inaugurated in July 1991. The idea for this project came from Michel Hidalgo , the club’s former sports director (1986-1990). Initially, the center’s infrastructure was poorly developed: mainly the center’s buildings were prefabricated buildings.

In 1998, the center was modernized for the first time: they increased the number of permanent facilities, including a gym, cafeteria, and educational building.

In 2002, the second modernization of the center followed. In 2005, administration and a media center (management of OM TV television, OM.net Internet service, OMmag magazine ...) were located in building No. 9.

Infrastructure

On an area of 9.5 hectares, the Olympic football club (Marseille) has:

• 40,000 m² of football fields;

• 8,800 m² of grass-covered football fields;

• 12,600 m² of grassed sports fields;

• 8 800 m² of synthetic-coated football pitches;

• 7,800 m² of synthetic-coated football fields for special workouts with a track for athletics.

In addition, the center has:

• a locker room for 33 people for the club’s main staff, as well as 4 locker rooms for football players trained at the training center (the French football championship among amateur clubs, 18-year-old football players, 16-year-old football players and 14-year-old football players);

• massage, steam room, thalassotherapy ;

• gym;

• video room;

• sports administrative premises;

• a new 2-story administrative building with an area of 1,870 m², which houses the administration and the media center of the club;

• a building for a training center with an area of 170 m² with a press center for 60 people.

In 2008, a new stage began in the modernization of the center: a new building was built for athletes. The project of the architect Bastien Ripoli provides for a building with an area of about 2000 m², consisting of 3 levels:

• the underground level is intended exclusively for athletes, who have a locker room, gym, medical center, hammam, sauna and coaching room.

• The first level includes 24 bedrooms.

• The second level includes a reception hall, a restaurant with a kitchen, as well as administrative premises.

The training center was commissioned in March 2009.

In January 2011, the new building of the training center was commissioned. Its cost cost 4 million euros. The 1900 m² building has 36 rooms (24 single and 12 double), 5 rooms for the administration, 11 classrooms and 1 TV room for 29 people.

It replaced the Bastide des Platanes building, an old building located 13 km from the training center in the 9th arrondissement.
