List of princes of Andorra

The following is a list of Andorran co-princes .

The Principality of Andorra was formed in 1278 on the basis of an agreement on joint suzerainty between the Catalan bishops of Urhel and the Occitan counts of Foix . The ownership of Andorra by the counts of Foix was transferred in 1479 to the kings of Navarre (after Count Francis Phoebus received the crown of Navarre), and then in 1589 to the kings of France (upon receipt of the crown of France by Henry IV of Navarre ). Since then, the head of the French state acts as the French co-ruler, and the traditional tandem was violated only during the First French Republic , when France renounced the powers of the co-ruler of Andorra.
