Biography

Radek Baborak was born into a musical family. He began to practice on the horn at the age of 8 under the direction of Karel Kshenek, later he graduated from the Prague Academy of Music with Bedřich Tõlszár . At the age of 12 he won the Concertino Prague contest [1] , and another 3 years later he became the winner of the third prize at the Prague Spring contest . Since then, Radek Baborak regularly won prizes at various prestigious music competitions both as a soloist and as a member of ensembles - in particular, in 1993 he was awarded the second prize of the International Competition of Performers in Geneva (the first prize was not awarded).

At the age of 18, he became a soloist in the Czech National Philharmonic Orchestra . From 1996 to 2002 worked in the German orchestras of the Munich and Bamberg Philharmonic. Since 2002 , Radek Baborak is a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra .

Baborak regularly gives solo concerts around the world, accompanied by such bands as the London Philharmonic Orchestra , the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra , the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra , the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra , the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin , the South-West Radio Orchestra of Germany , the Salzburg Mozarteum , the St. Petersburg Orchestra , NHK Symphony Orchestra (Tokyo); performs at various festivals and events of the International Society of French Hornists . In addition, Baborak is the leader in the Afflatus wind quintet (since 1995 ). Among the conductors Baborak worked with were Seiji Ozawa , James Levine , James De Priest (with whom Baborak recorded the concert of Reinhold Glier ) and others.

Among the most important recordings of Baborak are concerts by Antonio Rosetti and works by Johann Sebastian Bach (including transcriptions of Bach's compositions for viola da gamba ).
