Fedor Rozmyslov (d. 1771 ) - navigator , traveler of the XVIII century , who laid the foundation for Russian exploration of the New Earth .
Biography
In 1740 he entered the Maritime Academy as a student, from 1744 to 1766 he was a voyage annually in the Baltic Sea and made 4 transitions from Kronstadt to Arkhangelsk and back. C 1760 - navigator sub-lieutenant rank .
Having set out to find mineral wealth on Novaya Zemlya and make its coastal inventory (on behalf of the Governor of the Arkhangelsk Golitsyn), Rozmyslov left Arkhangelsk with a small crew on July 10, 1768 , and was off the coast of Novaya Zemlya with a small crew on board a vessel equipped with merchant Barmin. Entering Matochkin Shar , he made surveys, then in the Beluga Bay (in the northern part of Matochkin Shara) he wintered [1] , making correct meteorological observations all winter, and in early spring surveying. In the summer of 1769 , despite the loss of most of the people and the extremely poor condition of the vessel, Rozmyslov reached the real mouth of Matochkin Shara, but, due to the inability to sail further, had to return to Arkhangelsk.
The result of his work was the inventory of Matochkin Shara, which, according to Academician Litke , is superior to that made by the latter. The same review was given by later travelers to Novaya Zemlya. Even in the summer of 1897 , English travelers discovered traces of Rozmyslov's winter hut in the Beluga Bay [2] .
