Rosencrantz, William

William Rosenkranz (Rosenkranz, 1821 - 1874 ) - German philosopher; Advisor to the High Court of Appeal in Munich.

Adjacent directly to Schelling, Rosencrantz tried, by independently developing his teachings, to bring philosophy closer to positive theology.

In his main essay: “Wissenschaft des Wissens und Begründung der besonderen Wissenschaften durch die allgemeine Wissenschaft” (vol. I, Munich, 1866 , reprinted in Mainz, 1868 ; vol. II, Mainz, 1868) Rosencrantz draws particular attention to Plato, A and scholasticism of the Middle Ages.

He ascends from the fact of external and internal experience to the knowledge of higher unity and then deploys it synthetically. Along with criticism of the doctrine of categories, he gives his own witty doctrine of them.

In his Principien der Theologie (Munich, 1875 ) and Principien der Naturwissenschaft (ibid., 1875), he shows how God should be defined by its essence and its properties, and how the basis of nature and its phenomena is a single spiritual principle . The doctrine of the spirit that was to follow remained unfinished. His "philosophy of love" see A. Entleutner, "Naturwissenschaft, Naturphilosophie und Philosophie der Liebe" (Munich, 1877 ).
