Description

The park is located in the north of the Ryazan Region and covers Klepikovskie Lakes , adjacent lowland marshes, the valley of the Pra River - a tributary of the Oka River , as well as a system of shallow lakes and bogs on the watershed of Pra and Solotchi .

Meshchersky National Park is organized to protect, study and preserve the natural and historical-cultural complexes of the Meshchersky Territory . This territory, in particular, the floodplain of the Pra river, winding along the often Meshchera forest, is included in the list of wetlands of international importance [2] .

About a third of the Meshchersky’s territory is made up of meadows , fields , villages , where the traditional economic activity of the local population continues, grazing, picking berries and mushrooms . Until recently, large-scale logging, land reclamation, and peat extraction were carried out here.

The territory of the Meshchera is one of the most visited recreation areas among the central regions of Russia. The wealth of recreational resources - forests, rivers, a large number of lakes - attracts about five thousand visitors a year, mainly tourists , fishermen , hunters , fans of mushrooms and berries.

The activity of the national park, in accordance with the plan for its long-term development, is focused on solving seven main tasks:

  • Creation of the infrastructure of the park;
  • Wildlife conservation (conservation of species and genetic diversity);
  • Conducting research and environmental monitoring;
