Rose, Gustav

Gustav Rose ( German: Gustav Rose ; March 18, 1798 , Berlin - July 15, 1873 , Berlin ) - German mineralogist and geologist. The brother of the chemist Heinrich Rose , father of the surgeon Edmund Rose .

Biography

He participated in the Napoleonic wars. He studied at the University of Berlin. He was a professor of mineralogy at the University of Berlin , and since 1856 also director of the mineralogical museum.

In 1829 , Rose accompanied Alexander F. Humboldt on his journey through Siberia .
In 1850 , he traveled with Mitcherlich with a geological purpose to Vesuvius , Etna and the Aeolian Islands .
In 1852 , he investigated the extinct volcanoes of southern France .
Since 1856 he was engaged in geognostic research of the Giant Mountains .
In the field of mineralogy, Rose established a crystallochemical system of minerals and studied the relationship between the shape of crystals and electric polarization, heteromorphism of calcium carbonate, the dependence of the shape of crystals on the circumstances that accompany their formation, and the discovery of larchite in Berezovsky and others.

Father of the German surgeon Edmund Rose (1836-1914).

In addition, Rose wrote a mineralogical-geognostic department in the composition: “Reise nach dem Ural, dem Altai und dem Kaspischen Meer” (with Humboldt and Ehrenberg, Berlin, 1837–42). Together with Beirich, Roth, and Runge Rose published Geologische Karte von dem niederschlesischen Gebirge etc. (B., 1861 —63).
