Biography
Came from the nobles. He was born on August 5 ( 17 ), 1804 .
In 1825 he graduated from the verbal department of Moscow University with a candidate ’s degree. Upon a call from the Novorossiysk and Bessarabian Governor-General Count M. S. Vorontsov , he entered the service of his office on January 1, 1830, and was appointed editor-in-chief of the Odessa Herald at the same time. In this journal, as well as in Literary Additions to it, he placed many of his articles, both original and translated. In 1831, together with P. T. Morozov, he published the Odessa Almanac [1] . At the same time, Rozberg occupied professorships at the Richelieu Lyceum : from October 20, 1831 - the Department of History, from December 14, 1831 - Russian literature; he retained both of these departments until September 1, 1835.
In 1833-1834 he edited the first literary magazine in Odessa " Literary leaflets ".
Rosberg was invited to the Imperial University of Derpt on July 6, 1835, but remained in the service of the Office of Governor General Vorontsov until June 13 of the following year, and only on September 21, 1836 assumed the post of professor of Russian language and literature at the University of Derpt. In 1838, he was influenced by the works of F. Schelling and G.-F. Asta wrote a dissertation “On the Development of the Fine in the Arts and Especially in Literature” (Derpt, 1838), for which he was awarded, on December 7, the degree of Doctor of Philosophy , and on December 23 of the same year he was approved as an ordinary professor . In addition to this position, on March 24, 1841, he was appointed censor of the Derpt Censorship Committee, and in the same year (October 19), the Imperial Academy of Sciences elected Rozberg an adjunct in the newly opened department of Russian language and literature. He also participated in the activities of the Pedagogical and Philological Seminary.
The successful work of M. P. Rozberg is characterized by the fact that the students compiled under his guidance the book "Essay on the General History of the Ancient World" (1843); On June 7, 1843 he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 4th degree; On October 29, 1843 he was promoted to college adviser , and the following year he was sent to revise schools in the city of Verro, for which he was awarded a diamond ring. Finally, on February 3, 1849, M.P. Rozberg was elected by the Academy of Sciences an extraordinary academician.
In 1867, with the rank of full state councilor, he retired.

His first literary works were published in the Bulletin of Europe , edited by Kachenovsky . Of his separately published works, the first was an article on the character of Greek and Roman literature: “Commentatio de natura as indole literarum Graecarum et Romanarum, nec non de gravissimis adminiculis, quibus eae alitae, educatae et vigorem adeptae fuerint” (1825); this article was subsequently translated by Rosberg himself into Russian and printed in the Moscow Telegraph . Living in Moscow after graduation, he took an active part in the magazine Athenaeum .
