Rozhdestvensky, Yuri Vladimirovich

Yuri Vladimir Rozhdestvensky ( December 10, 1926 - October 24, 1999 ) - Soviet and Russian linguist , philologist , philosopher , orientalist and cultural scientist , organizer of science. Honored Professor of Moscow State University M.V. Lomonosova , academician of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1989), academician of the Russian Academy of Education , laureate of the Grimm Prize ( 1985 ), laureate of the Lomonosov Prize ( 1995 ) for the creation of the series “Fundamental Language Theory for the Post-Industrial Information Society”.

Biography

Born in the family of the head of the railway construction department of the North and the Far East - V.I. Rozhdestvensky (1900-1978).

In 1944, drafted into the Red Army . Member of World War II . Demobilized in 1949.

He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies . Since 1959 he worked at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the USSR Academy of Sciences . In 1970 he defended his doctoral dissertation "Typology of the word."

For 22 years (1975-1997) [1] - head of the department of general and comparative historical linguistics of Moscow State University. In 1982-1988, he headed the joint department of general, comparative historical and applied linguistics; according to V. A. Uspensky , he suspended A. A. Zaliznyak from teaching on OSiPL [2] .

Created a school of scholars, philologists and cultural scientists working in various fields of science. Among his students are professors A. A. Volkov , V. I. Annushkin , A. P. Lobodanov , V. I. Braginsky , A. A. Suvorov , poet V. G. Kupriyanov and others.

He was buried in Moscow, at the Alekseevsky cemetery.
