Baranavichy district ( Belorussian. Baranavitsky rayan ) is an administrative unit in the north-east of the Brest region . The administrative center is the city of Baranavichy (not included in the district).

Content
Geography
The area borders with the Grodno and Minsk regions. The area of the district is 2.2 thousand km² (6th place among the districts of the region).
The main river is the Shchara , the tributaries of the Shchara: Myshanka , Lokhozva , Issa , Molotovka and the Molchad and Servech rivers begin. The largest body of water is the Gat reservoir . Lakes - Koldychevskoe and Domashevichskoe.
Forest: 33% of the territory. The main forests are concentrated in the south of the district. Pine forests predominate. 65.1% of soils are loamy, 26.7% are loamy. On average, 630 mm of precipitation falls annually [6] . Under the swamp 18.7 thousand hectares. Almost all the lowlands are drained.
Minerals are represented by deposits of peat, sand and gravel material, building sands, brick clays [6] .
Most of the area is flat. In the north-west of the region is part of the Novogrudok Upland , in the east - part of the Kopyl ridge [6] . Height 180-240 m. The highest point of the region 267 m is located near the village of Green .
Baranavichy district borders Ivatsevichi and Lyakhovichi districts of the Brest region in the south, Slonim , Dyatlovsky , Novogrudok and Korelichi regions of the Grodno region in the north-west, Nesvizh district of the Minsk region in the east.

History
The modern territory of the region became part of the Russian Empire in 1795 , after the 3rd division of the Commonwealth .
In February 1919, this territory entered the Baranavichy district of the Byelorussian SSR . As a result of the war of 1919-1921, this territory became part of the Baranavichy Povet of the Novogrudok Voivodeship of Poland, but on September 17, 1939 , after the annexation of Western Belarus to the USSR , on November 14, 1939 it was included in the Baranavichy region of the BSSR. January 15, 1940 in the modern territory of the district Novomyshsky and Gorodishchensky districts were formed.
In June 1941, it was occupied by German troops. The Lesnian death camp , the Kodlychev death camp and 3 ghettos were created, and about 80,000 people were destroyed. The Baranavichy anti-German underground, the Baranavichy regional anti-German organization, the Baranavichy underground regional committees and city committees of the Communist Party (B) B and the Young Communist League, the Baranavichy partisan compound of the southern zone, the underground newspapers Peremoga, Partyzan Belarusi, Za Rodiny acted in the region. The area was liberated on July 6–9, 1944 by troops of the 1st Belorussian Front during an offensive on the Baranavichy-Slonim direction.
Since January 8, 1954 as part of the Brest region. On May 20, 1954, the center of the Novomyshsky district was transferred to Baranovichi, on April 8, 1957 the district was renamed to Baranovichi. On October 4, 1957, 2 village councils of the abolished Bytensky district were joined. On December 25, 1962, the entire territory of the Gorodishchensky district was annexed. Since that moment, the external borders of the region have not changed.

The population of the district is 30 703 people (as of July 1, 2018), including the settlement of Gorodishche about 2 thousand inhabitants and 29 316 rural population [4] . The city of Baranavichy is not part of the district.

As of January 1, 2018, 19% of the district’s population was younger than able-bodied, 50% - able-bodied, 31% - older than able-bodied [12] . 350–500 children are born annually in the region and 700–1100 people die. The birth rate in 2017 is 11.9, the mortality rate is 25 (the last indicator is the highest among the districts of the Brest region). A natural decrease in the population is observed, and the population decreases annually by 300-600 people for natural reasons (-408 by the end of 2017). The rate of natural population decline (-13.1 in 2017) is the highest in the Brest region [13] . In 2017, 165 marriages (5.3 per 1000 people) and 65 divorces (2.1) were concluded in the district [14] .

In 2017, the average salary of workers in the district amounted to 93.5% of the average level in the Brest region [20] .
The revenue from sales of products, goods, works, services in 2017 amounted to 453.9 million rubles (about 227 million dollars), including 319.8 million rubles accounted for agriculture , forestry and fisheries, 86.9 million for industry , 7.6 million for construction, 28.8 million for trade and repair [21] .
The fuel industry in the region is represented by the peat enterprise "Kolpenitsa", which is located in the village. October. The company produces fuel peat briquettes, as well as peat for fertilizers.
Construction sand, clay, sand and gravel are also mined.
Agriculture
In 2017, the agricultural organizations of the district collected 159.1 thousand tons of grain and leguminous crops with a yield of 41.8 kg / ha, 269 tons of flax fiber with a yield of 7.1 kg / ha, 137.5 thousand tons of sugar beet with a yield of 439 kg / ha [22] . In 2017, 38.1 thousand ha of arable land was sown for grain crops, 0.4 thousand ha for flax, 3.2 thousand ha for sugar beets, and 33 thousand ha for fodder crops [23] .
As of January 1, 2018, the district's agricultural organizations contained 55.7 thousand heads of cattle, including 20.7 thousand cows, less than a thousand pigs (71.4 thousand in 2017), 4273 thousand poultry [24] . By the number of birds, the Baranavichy district is in third place in the Republic of Belarus after the Smolevichi and Mogilev regions . In 2017, the agricultural organizations of the region sold 84 thousand tons of cattle and poultry meat and produced 106.2 thousand tons of milk [25] .

In 2016, 37 public libraries with a collection of 301.8 thousand copies of books and magazines operated in the Baranavichy district. The number of users amounted to 17.5 thousand people, 312.7 thousand copies of books and magazines were issued [26] .
