Poren ( cor. 보령시 ? , 保 寧 市 ́?, Boryeong-si), due to the peculiarities of the New Romanization, is often incorrectly translated into Cyrillic as Boryong , a city in the province of Chuncheon Namdo , South Korea . Located on the shores of the Yellow Sea , it is one of the main resorts on the west coast of the country. This is where the Poren dirt festival takes place.

History
In the era of Samhan, the area on which Poren now stands is part of the proto-state of Mahan. Later, in the era of the Three Kingdoms, this territory became part of Paekche . After these lands were conquered by the state of Silla , the Sangong (Sangonyun) district emerged here, and later, in the Silla United era, the Sinip (Siniphyun) region. During the reign of the Goryeo dynasty as a part of Wundju (modern Kondju), the Poryon (Poryonhyun) district was established, which later, in 1018 , was transferred to the administration of the city of Unju.
In 1895, after administrative reform, Poren received the status of a county (coon or gun). In 1986, the city ( si ) Techon was separated from Poren, but already in 1995 Poren and Techon were merged into a single administrative unit - the city of Poren. [one]
