History

The church with the main throne in honor of St. Simeon the Pillar existed at the beginning of the XVII century. In patriarchal salary books under 1628 it was noted: "the church of Simeon the Stolpnik, tribute three altyns with dengue, ten-hryvnia hryvnia."

In 1717, under the Simeon Church, a warm church was built and consecrated in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. In 1724, during the great fire, from which “many holy churches and many courtyards and shopping malls, all without a trace” burned down in Pereslavl, the Simeonovsky church with a warm meal also burned down. From the petition submitted to the synodal order by the priest of this church Sergius Stefanov with the parish people, it is clear that there were two chapels at this church: in honor of the Nativity of Christ and Theodore Stratilat, that it “was built with the blessed memory of Tsar Theodore Alekseevich”, that all church utensils survived from the fire. But due to the "lack of accessibility" in 1726, the synodal state order determined to attribute the Simeonovsky church to Sergievskaya.

The priest, contrary to this order, asked for permission to build a new church on a burnt place, citing the fact that the parishioner Ratman Pyotr Malikov promised to build it, he also promised to content the clergy “against the decree and the spiritual regulator” that he, the priest, had from his parishioners "His contentment is needless." The priest’s request was respected, and in 1728 the church was built and consecrated by the Protopresbyter of the Transfiguration Cathedral, Theodor Potapiev.

In 1771 , with the permission of His Grace Bishop Pereslavsky, with the funds of the parishioners, the construction of a stone church began, which has retained its original appearance to this day. This five-domed, two-story church, the altar has three protrusions; in the middle of the church walls there is a belt separating the upper floor from the lower; in the corners are smooth columns carved from brick; the windows have platbands with cornices, and above them are the molded faces of Angels; the windows of the upper church have iron single bolts. The altar is separated from the temple by a stone wall.

There are two thrones in the church and at present, as before: in the upper church in the name of St. Simeon the Pillar, in the lower in the name of St. Alexius, the man of God [1] .

The revered shrines of the temple are the icon of the Kazan Mother of God and the icon of Spiridon of Trimifunts with particles of relics.
