History
Since 1628, a church in honor of the Nativity of John the Baptist stood on this site. This church existed at the beginning of the XVI century and is mentioned in the life of St. Daniel . She reminds herself of a chapel to the church.
During and after Peter the Great , the Church of the Sign had the nickname "by the ships." Not far from the church was a shipyard on which the Pereslavl flotilla was built, and later ships were stored on the shore here.
In 1788, instead of this wooden church, a stone church was built by the "contributor of the widow of the Major, Anna Ivanova Maslova". There were two thrones in the church: in the cold in honor of the Sign of the Most Holy Theotokos, in the warm aisle in honor of the Nativity of John the Baptist. [one]
