PTPRF ( Eng. Protein tyrosine phosphatase, receptor type, F , protein tyrosine phosphatase, receptor type, F) is a member of the family of protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTP) associated with the processes of cell growth, differentiation , mitosis , oncogenic transformation. The structure of this protein has an extracellular region, one transmembrane region and two tandem cytoplasmic domains. The extracellular portion contains three Ig-like domains and nine non-Ig-like domains similar to the domains of a neuronal adhesive molecule . PTPRF is involved in the regulation of epithelial intercellular contact and the control of signaling activity of beta-catenin .
According to one study, PTPRF is expressed in progenitor cells of the subgranular zone of the brain, and a decrease in its expression by siRNA or genetic knockout enhances hippocampal neurogenesis in experimental rodents. [one]
Role in Disease
PTPRF interacts with the insulin signal chain. Elevated levels of protein are observed in target tissues of insulin in people with increased body weight and decreased sensitivity to insulin ; [2] PTPRF may play a role in the pathological process of reducing the response to insulin. On the other hand, with knockdown of the PTPRF gene in mice, insulin sensitivity also decreases. [3]
Two studies conducted by different groups noted an increase in the level of PTPRF in the cornea affected by keratoconus , [4] [5] possibly indicating apoptosis due to excessive oxidative stress.
