Geography
The territory of the Chaa-Kholsky district (kozhuun) covers an area of 2.9 thousand km² [3] . The area was created in 1992 . It has 4 sumon - Chaa-Khol, Shanchi, Ak-Turug, Kyzyl-Dag.
The regional center - the village of Chaa-Khol - is located in the central-eastern part of the Chaa-Khol district (kozhuun). A good asphalt road with a length of 189 km connects it with the capital of the republic of Kyzyl, 590 km to the nearest railway station in the city of Abakan .
On the north side, the district borders on the Krasnoyarsk Territory , in the northwest on the Sut-Kholsky District , on the east - on the Ulug-Khemsky District , on the south-west - on the Dzun-Khemchiksky kozhuun , on the south - on the Ovyursky kozhuun .
A feature of the Chaa-Khol region is a kind of hydrographic network, which is represented by the Sayano-Shushensky reservoir , the rivers - Kozhai, Chaa-Khol, Khemchik, Bai-Bulun, Ulug-Kara-Sug, Bidilig, Chinghe, Orta-Khem, Kuylug-Khem.

Chaa-Kholsky kozhuun is equated to areas of the Far North .
The climate is sharply continental. Winters are cold, long and not snowy, with clear and calm weather. The temperature during the day is −15 ° C, at night −18 ° C ÷ −32 ° C. The period with an average daily temperature above 0 degrees begins in April and lasts until October. Summer is dry and warm, in the mountains - cool and short. Temperature during the day + 16 ° С ÷ + 20 ° С, in the mountains + 10 ° С ÷ + 16 ° С, in hot weather up to + 30 ° С (maximum + 38 ° С). Autumn is dry and clear. Temperature during the day + 8 ° С ÷ + 10 ° С, (rarely + 15 ° С), nights with frosts up to −5 ° С ÷ −10 ° С. Winds in the summer are dominated by western and north-western, in winter eastern and south-eastern. The period with an average daily temperature above 10 degrees is 125 days.
History
It was formed in 1941 . In 1961 it was abolished, and its territory entered the Ulug-Khemsky kozhun , restored again in 1992 . [3]

The population was resettled from the flood zone of the Sayan-Shushensky reservoir to the right bank of the Chaa-Khol river.
