Ground
For several years, Lola has successfully supplied a chassis for Formula 1 teams. In the end, Eric Broadley decided to create his own team. In 1995, the first chassis model was tested, and at the end of 1996 Broadley announced plans to participate in Formula 1. It was planned to begin performances in 1998. But under pressure from the main sponsor of MasterCard , the debut season was supposed to be 1997 .
While still a debutant - the team of three-time world champion Jackie Stewart “ Stewart Grand Prix ” at the end of 1996 already had a finished car, “Lola” just started to develop it. Four months later, the car was ready. It was a T97 / 30 chassis built using IndyCar technology. The car did not even have time to pass tests in the wind tunnel and tests on the highway. Ricardo Rosseta and Vincenzo Sospiri put behind the wheel of a car.
The MasterCard Lola team debuted at the Australian Grand Prix . But not one of the pilots could even qualify.
Leaving Formula 1
On March 26, Wednesday before the Brazilian Grand Prix , Lola announced that it would not take part in the race on the Interlagos circuit due to financial and technical problems. Shortly afterwards, the team left Formula 1. For such a short period of existence, MasterCard Lola has accumulated debts of £ 6 million and a few weeks later was declared bankrupt. Nevertheless, the Lola production itself still makes the chassis for various racing series.
April 23, 2009 "Lola" announced its plans to return to Formula 1 in 2010 [1] , but they did not come true.
