Blind embossing ( German blind - blind) - flat, colorless embossing of inscriptions or decorations on book bindings, produced by a hot press.
In case of blind embossing, a flat stamp ("cliche") leaves a flat recess on the surface of the book binding, smoothing the texture of the fabric or paper.
Scope
Blind embossing is used as an independent technique for the design of book bindings and as a preparation of their surface for printing with ink or foil. When printing with foil or ink, B. T. makes the inscription more resistant to abrasion and damage, since the level of the embossed image is below the level of the material.
Blind embossing along with other types of embossing is used in the manufacture of folders, covers, diplomas. B. T. finds wide application in the production of promotional products, for the so-called personalization of folders, diaries, plannings, souvenirs, produced mainly from natural, recycled, artificial leather.
