The American Economic Association (AEA) is an organization of economists that emerged in 1885 on the initiative of the American economist Richard Eli .

Publishes a number of journals, including The American Economic Review , the Journal of Economic Literature , the Journal of Economic Perspectives, and others; Awards the John Bates Clark Medal . The association supports the Internet Portals Resources for Economists on the Internet and EconLit . Within the association, there is a Committee on the Status of Women in the Economic Profession .
In 1947-1977, the AEA awarded the Francis Walker Medal .

Goals
The objectives of the Association are [1] :
- Promotion of economic research, especially in the field of historical and statistical analysis of the current state of industrial activity.
- The organization of publications on economic topics.
- Encourage as much freedom as possible in economic discussions. The association as such will not take a party position and will not oblige its members to take any position on practical economic issues.
History
The American Economic Association was organized in 1885 at a meeting in Saratoga , Saratoga County, New York , by a small group interested in economics [1] .
The first charter of the American Economic Association stated that the state performs the most beneficial functions from the point of view of society: “We consider the state as an institution whose positive assistance is one of the necessary conditions for the progress of humanity” [2] . " Laissez faire is unsafe in politics and not motivated in morality" and "we believe in the existence of a system of social ethics." The Charter rejected the economic theory of the "past generation" and demanded a new scientific economy based not on speculative research, but on "the help of statistics in the present and history in the past." It directly recognized the “conflict of labor and capital,” as well as the fact that its resolution requires “the combined efforts of the church, state and science”, but that in the matter of restricting trade and protectionism “we do not take a party position” [3] .
