History
The division was formed as the 431st Infantry Division in November-December 1941 in the Molotov Region . 01/07/1942 was renamed the 170th Infantry Division.
In the army from 04/04/1942 to 03/20/1943 and from 05/03/1943 to 05/09/1945.
By formation, it is directed to the North-Western Front , where during 1942-1943 it fought in the Valdai region, at the beginning of 1943 it took part in the Demyan operation in the Parfinsky district of the Novgorod region, it bears losses, and then it is taken to the reserve.
In May 1943, it was placed at the disposal of the Central Front.
Since July 1943, takes part in the Kromsk-Oryol operation, taking a large stronghold of Zmievka and pursues the retreating enemy to the west. It conducts fierce battles near the city of Kroma .
Then she took part in the Gomel-Rechitsa offensive operation, on the night of September 22, 1943, the division crossed the Dnieper in the Loev area, distinguished itself during the liberation of Rechitsa , then wedged into the enemy’s defenses in the direction of Bobruisk to the Berezina line. In January 1944, was assigned to the second echelon.
Since June 24, 1944, during the Bobruisk operation, it breaks through the defense 5 kilometers northwest of Rogachev . 06/22/1944 replaced parts of the 41st Rifle Corps at the forefront. Before the operation began, the division consisted of 9 battalions, 6,077 personnel, 3,643 rifles, 1,552 machine guns, 244 light machine guns, 66 machine guns, 210 anti-tank rifles, 54 82 mm mortars, 18 120 mm mortars, 30 45 mm guns , 12 76 mm regimental guns, 32 76 mm divisional guns, 12 122 mm guns, 3 sapper companies.
To break through the defense of the division, the 63rd howitzer artillery brigade , the 1890th self-propelled artillery regiment , the division of the 6th Guards mortar regiment and the Penalty Company of the 48th Army were given .
On June 24, 1944, Drut crossed, by 9-00 on June 26, 1944, the division, having a two-echelon battle formation, together with self-propelled guns reached the Dobysna River. An attempt to speed up this river was unsuccessful. 06/27/1944 completely broke through the enemy defenses. On June 30, 1944, she fought on the outskirts of Bobruisk.
After the capture of Bobruisk, in which the division was directly involved, continued the offensive, in July 1944 it led northwest of Brest , on July 15, 1944, it liberated the Porozovsky district.
On September 3, 1944, the division broke through the enemy’s defenses in the area of the Polish city of Ruzhan , west of the city of Ostrow Mazowiecka , went to the Narew River, immediately crossed it and captured the bridgehead on the opposite bank, which it subsequently managed to hold.
It conducts unsuccessful battles to expand the Narewski bridgehead, 10/10/1944, conducts battles near the village of Vinuzhka, 10/13/1944 in the area of the village of Magnuszew Mali (9 kilometers southeast of the city of Makow Mazowiecki , Poland ), forces the Ozhits river.
From 01/14/1945, he was advancing on Ciechanow , Shrensk, Zelyun, having on the left a part of the 399th Infantry Division , chasing the retreating enemy, by the end of 1/16/1944, the advance detachment approached Paluki .
In battles for East Prussia, the division fought during the breakthrough and liquidation of the Heilsberg fortified area, took control of the city of Mühlhausen and went to the coast of the Baltic Sea .
Disbanded in July 1945.
