History

On the lands in the upper reaches of the Shegarka river, karagases , which belong to the Altai peoples , lived. These settlements were included in the Moscow yasak book of 1623 and were called "Tatar volosts along the Ob." The appearance of Russian people on the lands of the modern Kozhevnikovsky district is associated with the construction of the Urmam prison in 1684. According to the Decree of Tsars Ivan and Peter , with a note from Tomsk governor Koltsov-Massalsky, Tomsk son of the boyar Yuri Sobolevsky was ordered to go with servicemen up the Ob River to the mouth of the Urtamka River and build a prison there. The first to establish their land on Kozhevnikov’s land were the horse-drawn Cossacks Athanasius and Stepan Kozhevnikovs and Ivan Berezovsky.
