Joseph Freinademets ( German: Joseph Freinademetz , April 15, 1852 , South Tyrol - January 28, 1908 , Jining , China ) is a Catholic saint , a member of the missionary congregation of God's Word ( verbists ).

Biography

He studied at the Higher Theological Seminary in Bressanone, after which on July 25, 1875 he was ordained a priest. In 1878, he joined the Steyl Missionaries congregation, founded by Janssen Arnold , which was later renamed the Word of God congregation. March 2, 1879 went to China with his friend at the seminary about. Hans Antser, who eventually became bishop . The arrival field in Hong Kong began to preach Christianity in Shandong. Over the next 30 years, he was engaged in missionary activity in China, most of his stay in this country was illegal.

While in China, Joseph Freinademets was engaged in the formation of catechists among Chinese Catholics. Published a catechism in Chinese. In 1898, due to illness, he went to Japan for treatment. Returning to China during the boxing uprising, he remained in his parish, despite the fact that he was offered to hide in the territories controlled by Western troops. In 1907, when the bishop left for Europe, he was entrusted with the affairs of the diocese.

Died of typhoid . He became infected by caring for the sick in an orphanage. His grave was routed during the Chinese Cultural Revolution .

On October 19, 1975, Pope Paul VI ranked Joseph Freinademets to be blessed, and on October 5, 2003, Roman Pope John Paul II canonized Joseph Freinademets together with the founder of the congregation of the Word of God Arnold Janssen.
