Biography
Yakov Tsvetkov was born in the family of a naval officer Yakov Grigoryevich Tsvetkov and Anna Stepanovna [1] He studied at the 3rd St. Petersburg Gymnasium (graduated in 1856 with a silver medal). At the end of the course at St. Petersburg University in 1860 he entered the service in the Pavlovsk Cadet Corps . In 1864 he defended his thesis for a master's degree in mathematics: “On surfaces that can be transformed one into another without breaking and without bending their parts.” Later he lectured at the Petrovsky Agricultural Academy (since 1869 as an ordinary professor) and taught mathematics (1866-1882) at the Alexander Military School [2] .
