Biography
Mikhail Shevich was born in 1805 and came from the nobility of the Ekaterinoslav province .
After completing the course at Kharkov University , when graduating from it in 1824 he was awarded a gold medal, Shevich entered the Astrakhan cuirassier regiment as a cadet and, using the rights of a university diploma, was promoted to cornet in the same year 1824.
Two years later, Shevich was seconded, with the rank of lieutenant , first to the Life Guards Dragunsky , and the next year to the Life Guards Hussars , where he was transferred with the rank of cornet in 1827.
During the Russian-Turkish campaign of 1828-1829. Shevich participated in the siege and capture of the fortress of Varna , and during the Polish campaign of 1831 (as senior adjutant of the headquarters of the guards reserve cavalry corps) participated in the battle of Ostroleka and in the assault of Warsaw , and for the distinction awarded the Order of St. 4th degree Vladimir with a bow.
In 1835, Captain Shevich, together with renaming as lieutenant colonel , was appointed the duty staff officer of the headquarters of the 2nd reserve cavalry corps. Shevich remained in this position until 1840, when he received indefinite leave , in which he was until 1844. This year, Shevich was again enlisted in the rank of colonel for active service in the Ascension Lancers Regiment , and a few months later he was appointed commander of the Odessa Lancers Regiment .
With this regiment, Shevich participated in the Hungarian campaign of 1849 , as part of the troops operating in Transylvania , and he excelled in many matters and battles, especially in the battle of Segeshwar and in the pursuit of a defeated enemy. However, while Shevich was severely shell-shocked in the leg. For rendered, brilliant differences, Shevich was awarded: November 28, 1849 - the Order of St. George 4th degree (No. 8332 according to the list of Grigorovich - Stepanov's cavalier list ) and January 4, 1850 - a golden saber with the inscription "For courage . In 1851, Shevich was promoted to major general , leaving the regiment commander; but soon thereafter he was appointed commander of the 1st Brigade of the 2nd Dragoon Division; and at the end of the year - the commander of the Life Guards of the Lancer Regiment . Shevich commanded this regiment until 1857, until his appointment to be a guard of cavalry, enlisted in reserve troops, along with dismissal on extended leave.
In 1867, Shevich was appointed Krasnoselsky commandant, and a few months later, with production as lieutenant general, - Tsarskoye Selo commandant, with the abandonment of the guards cavalry.
In 1869, Shevich took a vacation and went to inspect the planned connecting railway line between the Kharkov-Azov and Voronezh-Grushevskaya lines, through Lugansk .
Shevich was one of the most zealous entrepreneurs to lay this branch. On examination, Shevich fell ill and died in the Lugansk plant on March 10, 1870.
