New Witness is a weekly magazine published from August 2004 to January 2005 by Lighthouse Publishers .
The project was financed by a large advertising company , McKen-Erickson [1] .
Co-founder of the publishing house - Paola Messana.
The chief editor is Sergey Mostovshchikov . Deputy Chief Editor - writer Alexander Kabakov [2] [3] .
Criticism ( Dmitry Olshansky ) noted that the “New Witness” superficially copies the design and layout of the New Yorker magazine, greatly inferior to the New Yorker in terms of texts designed for less sophisticated and non-politicized audiences [4] . Copying the design of the New Yorker and possible copyright infringement were noted in the American press; Sergei Mostovshchikov denied such allegations and pointed out his proximity to the Russian pre-revolutionary journal Niva [5] [6] [7] .
According to Pavel Filenkov, Commercial Director of Kommersant Publishing House , “the magazine had neither a clear concept, nor a target audience,” so it was closed as unprofitable. Director General of Mediamark Agency Konstantin Isakov stated that “a magazine with such a blurred audience is not interesting for advertisers.” However, from the point of view of the Business newspaper, which cites these opinions (The Secret of the Firm Publishing House), it is incorrect to speak about the profitability of a publication that lasted only 5 months, since most publications go to it no earlier than a year later [8] . Vedomosti noted that the magazine had problems with promotion, there was little advertising in it, advertisers refused even free placement [9] .
