Euganees ( lat. Euganei ) - a people who lived in Italy between the Adriatic Sea and the Eastern Alps, presumably from the late Neolithic era (beginning of the 2nd millennium BC) and before the conquest by the Romans.

Apparently, the Euganes were a pre-Indo-European autochthonous people, akin to the Ingauns (branch of the Liguria ), as evidenced by the similarity of their own names. According to Pliny the Elder , the Euganes were related to such peoples as the Kamun in Kamonik , the triumplins in Trompii and the groans in Trentino .

When the Veneti in the XII-XI centuries BC, invaded the north of Italy from an unidentified region of Europe, they reached the western border of the Eugenees and partially assimilated them.

The Euganeans were a nomadic people who were engaged in hunting and gathering. Having mastered agriculture and cattle breeding , they moved to a settled way of life, began to build settlements from small huts and houses on stilts, united in tribes. In ancient times, owned metalworking.

The remains of the Neolithic settlements speak of a primitive way of life: traces of houses were found, but mainly products made of bone, flint and terracotta religious vessels.

The settlements of the Eugene were mainly found on the hills around Padua . The Euganes descended to the plains to hold religious festivals, in particular, near the hot springs, where they worshiped various gods, among which, probably, was Aponus , and later adopted the cults of the Veneti.
