This championship was marked by a scandal with the German striker Miroslav Sikora , who previously represented Poland. After the protest filed by the coach of the Finnish national team, the German national team was counted as technical defeats in the matches with the Finnish and Canadian teams (the German team won both matches). After that, the FRG team lost without a fight in the next two rounds. Nevertheless, the decision of the IIHF under the pressure of a number of protests and court decisions was canceled, technical defeats were canceled.
