Travis County is located in the United States in Texas . He enters the Austin - Round Rock agglomeration. In 2007, the population was 974,365; an increase of 400,000 inhabitants since 1990 . The administrative center is the city of Austin , the capital of Texas. The county is named after William Barrett Travis , commander in chief of the Republic of Texas at the Battle of Alamo .

According to the US Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 1,022 square miles (2,647 km²), of which 989 miles ( 2,562 km²) are land and 33 miles² (85 km²) or (3.21%) are water bodies.

Demographics
According to the 2000 census [1] , 812,280 residents lived in the okrug, consisting of 320,766 households and 183,798 families. The population density was 317 people per square kilometer. There were 335,881 residential buildings, with a coverage density of 131 per square kilometer. The racial makeup of the population was 68.21% White, 9.26% Black or African American , 0.58% Native American , 4.47% Asian, 14.56% from other races, and 2.85% were from two or more races. 28.20% of the population were Hispanic or Latino. 12.0% were Germans, 7.7% were British, 6.6% were Irish, and 5.5% were Americans.

The language composition was as follows: 71.42% of the population of 5 years and older spoke English, 22.35% in Spanish and 1.05% in Chinese (including Guanhua , Taiwanese and Cantonese dialects). [2]
Of the 320,766 households, 29.3% raise children under the age of 18 years, 42.6% of married couples living together, 10.4% of divorced women, 42.7% of single people. 30.10% of the total number live on their own, 4.40% are single old people aged 65 years and older. An average of 2.47 people per household, the average family size was 3.15 people.
The indicators for age categories in the district were as follows: 23.8% residents under 18 years old, 14.7% from 18 to 24 years old, 36.5% from 25 to 44 years old, 18.2% from 45 to 64 years old, and 6 , 7% over 65 years. The county prison and criminal justice center are located in downtown Austin. [4] [5] The Travis County Correctional Complex occupies non-municipal territory near the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport . [6] The Texas Department of Criminal Justice, which includes the Travis County Division, and the state's male prison are located in eastern Austin. [7]
