Biography
After the Alexander Lyceum (Petersburg) in 1898, Maksimovich went to study at the Polytechnic in Darmstadt, where he mastered the methods of color photography developed by Hoffmann and Gezeknel . During his stay at the Polytechnic, Maksimovich worked in the laboratories of chemistry, electrochemistry, physics and electrical engineering.
Upon his return from Darmstadt, Maksimovich joined a group of prominent Russian figures of photography, who then worked in St. Petersburg.
He died in the blockade .
Education and activities
In 1901 he graduated from the Electrochemical Department of the Higher Technical School in Darmstadt , Germany .
In 1901 - 1916 he worked at the Expedition for the Preparation of Government Securities (now Goznak ) in St. Petersburg .
In 1919 - 1930 - professor at the Higher Institute of Photography and Phototechnics (later - Leningrad Photokinotechnical College )
Since 1930 - an employee of the Research Institute of Geodesy, Aerial Photography and Cartography .
Achievements
- 1907 - the discovery of the Maksimovich – Calle effect and other studies in the field of sensitometry had a significant impact on the further development of photography and the development of projection systems in cinema.
- 1909 - improvement of the optical system of a polarization densitometer
- 1909 - together with Prokudin-Gorsky - a patent for a three-color cinema method. (German patent No. 229007 dated December 22, 1909 ).
- To use the patent, Biochrom Joint-Stock Company was established, which for the period 1910-1914. released several color films.
- In the systems of color cinematography that existed at that time, alternate exposure was used after two or three light filters, which generated a time parallax and its result was a colored border on moving objects. Maksimovich and Prokudin-Gorsky began to use the simultaneous shooting of two images obtained by a splitting prism and two lenses. One lens was equipped with a green filter, and the second with two changing ones. As a result, better color reproduction was achieved than in two-color cinema, and significantly lower time parallax compared with the Kinemakolor system, Smith-Urban system and others, which was used in England.
- December 22, 1912 (Russian privilege No. 2446) - the development of a new method for the production of color films, with the use of which in 1914 a short color film was shot.
The author of a number of inventions in the field of optics , electroforming and electrical engineering .
