Project History
In the post-war period, the absence of large propulsion engines of large thrust was a big problem, and in this connection, the search began for an alternative to turbojet engines. In 1946, OKB-301 under the leadership of S.A. Lavochkin and OKB-155 under the leadership of A.I. Mikoyan attempted to create a fighter with the LRE.
The project OKB-301 received the designation "162" and was a rocket interceptor with a two-chamber LRE L.S. Drushkina RD2M-3V. He had to have a straight wing and a cruciform tail. The takeoff of the aircraft was to take place on a wheelbarrow discharged, and the landing on the ski and tail wheel produced from the fuselage. Armament "162" consisted of six NAR TRS-82, located at the bottom of the nose of the fuselage in the jet guns of the ORO-82. In the course of the design, the work of the German specialists on the 346 "Rocket Aircraft" interned in the USSR was used.
Calculations showed that with a starting weight of 5,000 kg, its maximum speed at an altitude of 5,000 meters will reach 1,100 km / h, and a rise time to this height of 2.5 minutes, a ceiling of 18,000 meters. When operating the LRE in the minimum thrust mode, the flight duration at an altitude of 3000 meters was expected to be at least 20 minutes.
However, due to the acquisition of more powerful than the RD-10 and RD-20 , the British engines "Nene" and "Dervent V", opened up new opportunities for the creation of fighters with TRD. Work on the aircraft "162" were curtailed at the stage of construction of the layout.
