Biography
Career
Gianfrancesco Guarnieri is the author of the play Eles Não Usam Black-Tie (They Don't Wear Tuxedos) staged in 1958 on the stage of Teatro de Arena. The play was the first in Brazil to last in the repertoire for more than a year. The successful film adaptation of this play in 1981, in which he and Fernanda Montenegro [4] played the main roles, strengthened the significance of this social drama. Director Leon Hirtsman received a special jury Grand Prix, a FIPRESCI Award at the 1982 Venice Film Festival for his work on this film. Guarnieri was the author of more than 20 plays, including musical ones.
Gianfrancesco Guarnieri also actively starred in television, wrote scripts for television programs and acted in films, took part in more than 40 television projects, and starred in more than 10 films.
Fame and popularity among viewers was brought to him by the role of Tonya the sleepwalker from the first version of the television series Secret of the Tropicana (Women from the Sand), 1973. In Russia, he became known after the release of the series New Victim , where Guarnieri played Eliseu.

In the last years of his life, Gianfranchesko Guarnieri suffered from renal failure. For 5 years, doctors used hemodialysis [5] . The last work of the actor was the role of Peppe in the television series " Belissima ". After filming one of the last scenes of the television series, on June 2, 2006, he felt unwell [6] and was taken to the Syrian-Lebanese hospital in Sao Paulo.
He died on July 22, 2006 from chronic renal failure , four days after the death of another famous Brazilian actor - Raul Cortes .
Personal life
Gianfranchesko Guarnieri - the son of Elsa and Edoardo Guarneri, was born in Milan. When he was three years old, the family moved from Nazi Italy to Brazil. Before moving to Sao Paulo in 1953, he and his family lived in a suburb of Rio de Janeiro , where, according to him, his girlfriend Margarida had a great influence on his future creative development [5] .
He was married twice: from 1958 to 1965 to the journalist Cecilia Thompson, and from 1965 to his death, to the sociologist Vania Santanna. From the first marriage, two children were born - Paulo and Flaviu Guarnieri, who continued the work of their father and became actors. From the second marriage, three children were born - Claudiu, Fernando and Mariana.
