Content

History

During Chin's tribal union, the area on which Taebak stands was called Siljik. In 102, the territory passed under the control of the state of Silla , and in the V century , under the control of the Goguryo . Geography

Taeback is in the south of Gangwon Province. The city is located on the slopes of the Thebeksan mountains, which stretch across the entire Korean Peninsula . Economy

The basis of the economy in the past was coal mining. Now almost all the mines are closed, and mountain tourism has become the city-forming sector of the economy.

Culture

The city has a mining museum dedicated to the period in the life of Taekbek when mining was flourishing here. Every year in January a snow festival is held in the city, which includes sports competitions, exhibitions of ice sculptures and various competitions. In summer, at the beginning of June, the annual flower festival is held, which is dedicated to azaleas, one of the symbols of the Gangwon-do region.
