The origins of the river are in the Argon forest in northeastern France near Sainte-Meneu . In its length it crosses the departments of Meuse , Marne , Ardenne , En , flowing into the Oise River in the Oise department in the Compiegne district. Navigable Arden Canal connects the Aene and Maas basins .
Tributaries: Vel and others.
The river is known for the three battles of the First World War .
The river is locked, for 116 km navigable, connected by canals to the Marne and Meuse rivers. [1] The largest cities on the river are Saint-Meneu , Rethel , Soissons , Compiegne .
