He studied under the Strasbourg organist Joseph Wackenthaler, then studied in Paris as a pianist under the direction of Fryderyk Chopin , Johann Peter Piksis and Friedrich Kalkbrenner . Since 1844 - titular organist of the Cathedral of Saint Etienne in Toulouse. He published a three-volume guide on playing the organ. He composed both organ and choral church music and salon piano pieces, of which the Nocturne No. 5 pianists and the Elegant Fantasy on the themes of Gounod’s opera Faust were entrenched in the repertoire for a long time.
The famous Fantasy on the themes of the opera Carmen by Francois Bourne is devoted to Leibac. The street in his hometown is named after Leybak.
